Carrick Swan GAA Notes

Monday 07th November 2011.

Carrick Swan under 16 hurlers played county (A) final against Durlas Og (Thurles) on Saturday morning last in Clonmel. On an ideal day for hurling our team never performed to their potential and they were comprehensively beaten by a tremendous Durlas Og team. It is hard to pinpoint what went wrong on the day and perhaps it was just one game too many on what has been a long drawn out playing year.  However we must congratulate Durlas Og on their win and compliment our own panel of players and their mentors on winning divisional honours and on reaching county final. We hope to see them all back in action again next year with many still eligible for the under 16 grade.  The under 16 panel, mentors and Carrick Swan club would like to thank Aarons Takeaway for sponsorship of this team throughout the year. It is very much appreciated. We also thank the C.B.S. for use of school hall on Saturday afternoon while our own centre was undergoing renovation work.

Carrick Swan under 21 hurlers still wait on confirmation of their opponents and fixture for their south (B) championship final. In preparation they had useful workout against Moyle Rovers on Saturday evening last in St.Mollerans field.

The numbers drawn in last week’s juvenile lotto were 4, 6, 11 & 22.  We had no jackpot winner – and seven match 3 winners who each win €30.  Next week’s jackpot is €3,250 and we sincerely thank all those who continue to play our weekly lotto. Entry is €2 and this can be paid to any of our promoters or any committee member.  Funds raised continue to help the juvenile section of our club with recent renovations to our juvenile centre including new lighting system, comprehensive work on flooring throughout the centre and construction of store room for equipment, being financed from lotto funds raised.

Carrick Swan’s annual juvenile flag days take place this week, on Friday and Saturday. We request players and members to help out at collection points and would appreciate if those who are available on either day could give their names to any committee member. This is an important fundraising event for the club and we very much appreciate the support we get.

We remind parents and supporters that Terry is currently taking orders for training and leisure wear in club colours. These items make ideal Christmas gifts and are very competitively priced but orders must be placed now to ensure delivery before Christmas. We also remind parents that booking forms for our annual juvenile Christmas party in Cork must be returned now.

Carrick Swan club will play host to the Tipperary under 14 hurling and football teams on Saturday evening next in our juvenile centre. Both these successful teams will receive presentation from county juvenile board who were keen to hold this event in our centre in appreciation of the support and hospitality that Carrick Swan club and its members and friends have given to visiting Tipperary under-age teams for many years now. All those families who have hosted players at any time are invited to attend along with own juvenile players and club members. Event will commence at 6.30 p.m. and refreshments will be served later.

Carrick Swan club extends get well soon wishes to senior player Jamie Sweetman who underwent knee surgery last week. We wish Jamie a speedy recovery and hope to see him back in action next year.

The annual general meeting of Carrick Swan Hurling Football & Camogie Club will take place on Friday 25thNovember at 8.00 p.m. Official notification will be sent to all members and we look forward to your attendance.

Carrick Swan club extends its sympathy to the family of the late Tommy Roche, Marian Avenue who died during the week.
