Carrick Swan GAA Notes

 Monday 10th October 2011.

Carrick Swan club was most pleased to welcome our GAA President Christy Cooney to our clubrooms on Saturday afternoon last where he unveiled plaque in memory of Paddy Boland who departed from us so suddenly just over a year ago. The President and all the other speakers spoke in glowing terms of Paddy and the lifelong service he gave to Carrick Swan and the GAA. We thank the President for making himself available on the day and all those who contributed to a wonderful occasion. We also thank all those who helped in any way with our preparations, the brass band for their attendance and the visiting juvenile clubs who participated in under 8 hurling tournament. Finally we thank Paddy’s wife Joan and the Boland family for allowing our club place permanent reminder of Paddy in our clubrooms, a place where Paddy had spent so much of his life.

Carrick Swan under 16 hurlers still await confirmation of their south final fixture against St.Marys. It is most disappointing for this group of players and their mentors that this championship has been held up for so long. Hopefully it will be decided this week. We hosted under-8 teams from St.Mollerans and Moyle Rovers on The Green on Saturday afternoon last in Paddy Boland memorial tournament to coincide with the visit of the GAA President. All the players enjoyed their games and we thank the visiting clubs and their mentors for attending. Moyle Rovers came out on top in final.

We sincerely thank our ladies committee for their work over the week-end. The unveiling ceremony and juvenile tournament saw many visitors availing of the refreshments prepared and served by this hard working group and the visitors, and the club itself, is most appreciative of your efforts.

The numbers drawn in last week’s juvenile lotto were 4, 19, 20 & 23. We had no jackpot winner – and five match 3 winners who each win €40 – Roseanne Hahessy Oaklands, Caroline Hannigan Cregg Lawns, Paddy Griffin c/o Figgertys, Carmel Duggan Owning and Cissie Russell Pearse Square.  Next week’s jackpot is €2,250 and we sincerely thank all those who continue to support and play our weekly lotto. Entry is €2 and this can be paid to any of our promoters or any committee member.

Both the south intermediate and minor (A) hurling finals will be held in the Davin Park on Saturday afternoon next. The Davin Park committee are to be complimented on the amount of work that has gone into the ground and surrounding areas this year and their work has not gone un-noticed with these very important finals in the fixtures calendar coming to Carrick. We encourage our own players and members, and the general public, to attend the games on Saturday.
