Carrick Swan GAA Notes

Carrick Swan’s south senior hurling championship semi-final replay against Mullinahone took place in Fethard on Sunday afternoon last where we lost out in extra time having led throughout most of the first 60 minutes. The teams were level 0-04 each at half time and two late Mullinahone points, following some strange refereeing decisions, saw them snatch a draw 0-10 each at full time. Mullinahone got well on top in extra time to run out clear winners. We must now regroup for county championship fixture which may take place on Saturday next.

The south final of under 12 hurling go-games competition took place on Sunday morning last in Clogheen where we lined out against Ballingarry and resulted in an agonising one point defeat in a game which we probably should have won. Our south under 14 (A) championship final also took place last week in which we played Moyle Rovers in Clonmel. The opposition proved too strong on the night despite a battling display from our team. Final score 0-13 to 1-04. We congratulate both our under 12 and 14 panels and their mentors for their commitment and dedication throughout the year.  Meanwhile our under 10 hurlers were in action against Ballygunner on The Green on Wednesday evening last where both teams served up some great hurling.  They also played in blitz in Callan on Saturday where they won all their games defeating the host club in the final. This team will compete in south hurling blitz in Duneske, Cahir on Saturday next leaving clubrooms at 9.45 a.m. Our under 14 camogie team will travel to play St.Marys in Clonmel on Friday evening leaving club at 5.00 p.m. Under 8 players are reminded that training time is now changed to 6.00 p.m. each Tuesday.

All underage players are reminded that Youth Mass will take place in St.Nicholas Church on Wednesday evening of next week, 21st September, and we ask players to be in attendance at 7.15 p.m. wearing club jersey / colours. All those expected to attend will receive individual notice in advance.

The numbers drawn in last week’s juvenile lotto were 9, 16, 25 & 28. We had no jackpot winner and four match 3 winners who each win €50 - May Hickey, Clonmel, Annemarie Keyes, Glenview, Mrs.B.Halpin c/o F.Nolan and James Butler Mill Street. We thank you for your continued support and welcome new entries at any time. Weekly entry fee is €2 which can be paid to any committee member or any of our lotto promoters.

Carrick Swan underage and adult players were pleased to take part in the ‘Family & Friends of Larry Reade’ remembrance games on Sunday evening last in Carrick-Beg. Larry gave a lifetime of service to the St.Mollerans and Carrick Swan clubs, and the GAA, in a playing, coaching and refereeing capacity before his untimely passing earlier this year. We thank those who took part in and those who supported Sunday evening’s gathering, from which the funds raised will benefit St.Bridets Hospital Hospice Room.

All club officers and team mentors are reminded that items for inclusion in club notes must reach club P.R.O. by Sunday of each week for inclusion in following week’s press.
