Carrick Swan GAA Notes

Carrick Swan’s final senior hurling championship group game against Ballingarry will take place in Kilsheelan on Sunday next at 7.00 p.m. The final schedule of games will also see Davins play Mullinahone and Killenaule play Ballybacon with Mullinahone the only team already assured of semi-final place. All the games should therefore be keenly contested and we wish our team and their mentors the best of luck. Meanwhile our junior hurlers are in action on Tuesday evening of this week against Ballylooby while our junior footballers play Cahir on Tuesday evening of next week in Ned Hall Park at 8.00 p.m.

The numbers drawn in last week’s juvenile lotto were 5,13,15,& 27. We had no jackpot winner and eight match three winners each win €30. This week’s jackpot is €7,000 and we invite those who have not yet joined up to do so now by contacting any committee member. We sincerely thank all those who have supported our lotto to date with funds generated helping greatly with all our juvenile teams and upgrading of club facilities.

Many of our underage teams were in action during the week. Our under 14 hurlers entertained Ballingarry on The Green on Friday evening in challenge game in preparation for their championship which commences next week. This was a useful workout before we face Moyle Rovers on Monday evening next in first round championship game. Our under 8 hurling and camogie teams also played friendly games against Piltown during the week and all those involved enjoyed the activities. Carrick Swan fielded two under 10 teams in football blitz in Monroe on Saturday where there was some great football played while our under 12 girls also played blitz last week. Our under 16 hurlers travel to play Douglas in Cork on Saturday as their preparation for championship continues while our under 14’s will travel to play John Lockes in Callan later in the week.

With so many of our own players and visiting teams now using The Green for training and matches the pristine condition in which it is now kept has been commented upon by many. Great credit goes to William Barrett for his care and attention each week and we sincerely thank him. We also thank Martin Henzey, Danny Walsh and Martin Houlihan who prepare the Green and Davin Park for all our games. This is a great help to team mentors who can give their full attention to the players and to team preparation.

Sponsorship cards for our annual walk will be distributed soon and we look forward to the participation of our adult and juvenile players, members and supporters in what should be an enjoyable day out. This year’s walk is to Faugheen, a village steeped in Carrick Swan history.

All entry forms for our summer camp should have been returned by now. While late entries are accepted we cannot guarantee correct size leisure wear for those who have not returned forms by now. Summer camp takes place on the week-end of 01stJuly with coaching, fun and games for boys and girls from 5 to 13 years of age.
