Carrick Swan GAA Note

Carrick Swan’s eagerly anticipated south senior hurling championship semi-final clash with Mullinahone takes place on Sunday next in Monroe at 3.30 p.m. (changed venue and time). Our team has prepared well for this game and we wish them and their mentors the best of luck in their efforts to reach another south final. The other semi-final between Davins and Killenaule will precede our game at 2.00 p.m. Our minor hurlers are in action again this week having suffered defeat against Kilsheelan combination team last week. We play Ballingarry on Tuesday evening in Mullinahone.

Carrick Swan’s under-age teams have been busy this week. Our under 14 hurlers commenced their championship against St.Marys in Clonmel on Tuesday evening where they came out on top after a very competitive and close game winning 2-10 to 2-07. They play Moyle Rovers in Monroe on Monday evening of next week. Our under 12 hurlers also played during the week lining out against Moyle Rovers on The Green on Friday evening where both teams served up some great hurling with Swan running out convincing winners in the end.

The numbers drawn in last week’s juvenile lotto were 3, 14, 17 & 27. We had no jackpot winner and four match three winners each win €50 – Billy Loughman, Treacy Park, P.Cullen, Clairin Close, Michael Coffey, Ashpark and Mary Barrett, Ard Mhuire. This week’s jackpot is €7,750 and we thank all those who continue to support our fundraising efforts. In appreciation we will have additional ‘lucky dip’ prizes this week on top of our regular match 3 and jackpot prizes.

The annual sponsored walk to Faugheen takes place on Sunday July 31st and sponsorship cards are being distributed this week. We look forward to the participation of all our adult and juvenile players, members and supporters and we welcome your support. If you wish to take part in walk and you do not receive sponsorship card this week please contact committee member.

Congratulations to the Tipperary senior hurlers and their management team on their terrific win in Munster senior hurling championship final on Sunday last and best of luck in the All-Ireland series. The club reminds all members who require tickets for future Tipperary games that orders must be received 10 days before game. Requests for tickets for Munster final were being made right up to the weekend of the game and this is very unfair on ticket co-ordinator and committee members. Members are also reminded that membership cards are now available and will be distributed from this week.

A recently published newspaper article highlighted the concerns which Carrick-on-Suir Business Association has in relation to young players carrying hurleys and playing hurling on the streets. Carrick Swan club also received correspondence from the Business Association in relation to this matter.  Our club asks all its young players to refrain from this activity and not to cause nuisance, damage or intimidation by hurling on the street. We will of course discuss this matter with all our young players in due course.

Carrick Swan club received confirmation this week that the G.A.A. President will visit our club on Saturday 08thOctober to unveil plaque in tribute to, and in memory of, the late Paddy Boland. This will be most fitting recognition of a life dedicated to Carrick Swan and Gaelic Games.

All club officers and team mentors are reminded that items for inclusion in club notes must reach club P.R.O. by Sunday of each week for inclusion in following week’s press. Our e-mail address for those who might like to send contributions, photographs or any items of interest is carrickswans1929@gmail.com. You can visit our website at www.carrickswan.gaa.ie
