Carrick Swan GAA Notes

Carrick Swan senior hurlers will play second round of south championship on Sunday next in Davin Park at 1.30 p.m. where they will line out against local rivals Carrick Davins. Many observers of games in the division felt that last year’s meeting of these teams was the best game seen in the division for some time, with Swan coming out on top by a two point margin after a hugely entertaining game. Swan went on to divisional success after that game last year and the winners of Sunday’s encounter will position themselves strongly for a place in semi-final. We request our supporters on Sunday to observe instructions from stewards, we hope all in attendance enjoy the game and we wish the team and their mentors the best of luck.

Our senior footballers played Clonmel Og in south championship on Friday evening last in Kilsheelan where they edged a low scoring close affair 1-07 to 1-05. They were scheduled to play further round on Monday of this week while our minor footballers were also scheduled to play Ardfinnan on Monday morning last. Reports next week.

Carrick Swan under 14 footballers played Ballingarry on The Green on Friday evening where they recorded their second successive win of the championship. They play Kilsheelan on Monday next at 12.00 p.m. leaving clubrooms at 11.15 a.m. Our under 16 footballers are scheduled to play Moyle Rovers on Tuesday evening of this week.

Carrick Swan’s junior camogie team enjoyed their first victory on Friday evening last in Davin Park where they overcame Moyle Rovers 2-04 to 0-06 in an entertaining game. Many of this team also played in camogie blitz in De La Salle over the weekend. Well done to all concerned.

Our next juvenile disco will take place on Friday of next week 06thMay from 8.00 – 10.30 p.m. We look forward to your support and remind helpers to put their names forward in advance and to attend at 7.45 on the night.

As can be seen from match reports this is a very busy time for all in our club and we sincerely thank all the players, team mentors, those preparing the fields and all who help in any way. Fielding as many teams as we do in all age groups in hurling, football and camogie requires much work both on and off the field and our club is most appreciative of the support we receive from so many. We again plan to hold sponsored walk this year when all our players, young and old, supporters and friends will come together to help the club financially and enjoy a day out. More details later.

The numbers drawn in last week’s juvenile lotto were 7, 15, 27 & 28. We had no jackpot winner and two match three winners each received €100 -  Margo Crowe Killonerry Close and Lee Murphy Ard Mhuire. We also has special Easter draw for 4 X €50 lucky dips and the winners were Noel Grace New Street, Noel Harrigan Pearse Square, Nellie Barrett Pearse Square and Margaret O’Dwyer 10 Clairin. We thank all those who continue to support the weekly lotto. This week’s jackpot is €5,000 and we invite those who have not yet joined up to do so now by contacting any committee member.

Carrick Swan club extends its sympathy to the family of Bridget Broxson, St.Nicholas Park and Nellie Kelly, Collins Park who both died during the week.

All club officers and team mentors are reminded that items for inclusion in club notes must reach club P.R.O. by Sunday of each week for inclusion in following week’s press.
