Carrick Swan GAA Notes
Carrick Swan’s final senior hurling championship group game against Ballingarry took place in Kilsheelan on Sunday evening last and resulted in a two point win for Swan after a battling performance. The teams were evenly matched throughout the first half with Ballingarry leading 0-07 to 0-06 at half time. Swan got on top in second half and led 0-14 to 0-10 approaching full time when Ballingarry goaled from a penalty but a late point gave us a 0-15 to 1-10 well deserved victory. This win qualifies us for semi-final place where we are joined by Davins, Mullinahone and Killenaule. Draw and fixtures will be made soon and we wish all concerned the best of luck in their efforts to retain this south championship. Meanwhile our junior hurlers suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Ballylooby last week after a disappointing display while our junior footballers are in action on Tuesday evening of this week. Our senior footballers play county championship on Saturday evening next 02ndJuly when they line out against county champions Aherlow in Cahir at 7.30 p.m. We wish the team and mentors the best of luck.
Carrick Swan under age teams have again been busy this week. Our under 8 hurlers competed in blitz in Monroe on Saturday morning while our under 10’s were in action in Kilsheelan on the same morning. All the players enjoyed the morning’s games with some great hurling played at both venues. We thank both host clubs for their hospitality. Our under 16 hurlers visited Douglas in Cork on Saturday last where they played a very enjoyable match against the host club whom we thank for the game and kind hospitality afterwards. This week our under 12 camogie team play blitz in Cahir on Wednesday while our under 14 girls are in championship action in Borrisoleigh on Thursday evening.
The numbers drawn in last week’s juvenile lotto were 11, 16, 18 and 26. We had no jackpot winner and eight match three winners each win €30. This week’s jackpot is €7,250 and we again thank all those who are supporting the lotto and invite those who have not yet joined to do so by contacting any committee member.
Carrick Swan’s juvenile summer camp for boys and girls from 5 to 13 years of age takes place on The Green on Friday evening next from 6.30 to 8.30 and on Saturday from 10.30 to 04.30. We look forward to an enjoyable event where Tipperary stars Eoin Kelly and Paraic Maher will be in attendance and we ask all our team mentors and adult players to make themselves available on both days to help with coaching and organised activities.
Sponsorship cards for our annual walk will be distributed next week. We look forward to the participation of our adult and juvenile players, members and supporters in what should be an enjoyable day out. This year’s walk takes place on Sunday 31stJuly when we will walk to Faugheen. Your support will be very much appreciated.
All orders for tickets for the Tipperary / Waterford Munster Senior Hurling final which takes place on Sunday July 10th must be received by Friday next 01stJuly. No orders for tickets can be accepted after this date and if demand exceeds supply a draw will take place to distribute tickets.
