28th November

Carrick Swan GAA Notes – Monday 28th November 2011.

Carrick Swan under 21 hurlers played county (B) semi-final in Gortnahoe on Saturday last where they lined out against Moyne Templetuohy. Following divisional championship success last weekend hopes were high that we could advance in county championship but on the day Moyne proved too strong and ran our convincing winners. We wish them the best of luck in county final and compliment our own panel of players and their mentors on their successful year. We hope to see them all back in action in the New Year.

Our annual general meeting took place on Friday evening last where a reasonable attendance looked back on another successful year for our club both on and off the field of play, and looked forward with confidence to 2012. Chairman John Lonergan opened proceedings thanking all those who had helped our club throughout the year. Sean O’Shea (Secretary) gave a comprehensive report on the year’s playing activities and matters off the field as did juvenile secretary Terry Lonergan who highlighted the ever increasing workload and the need for more voluntary assistance. Treasurer Sean McDonnell reported on financial affairs highlighting significant expenditure on club property which will help all those who use facilities throughout the year.  Debate took place on a number of important issues with valuable contributions from all in attendance. Officers elected – President: Rev. Fr. Fergus O.F.M., V.Presidents: Rev. Fr. Ryan, Neddy Dignam, William Lonergan and Johnny Flynn, Chairman: John Lonergan , V.Chairman: Jim Kennedy, Secretary: Sean O’Shea, Treasurer: Sean McDonnell, Assistant Treasurer: Dick Lanigan, P.R.O.: Sean McDonnell, Registrar: Willie Hahessy, Juvenile Secretary: Terry Lonergan, Children’s Officer: Mary Barrett, Cultural & A.S.A.P Officer: Sorcha de Paor , Development Officer: Davy Boland, Players Representative: Alan Ryan.  Committee to be finalised this week.

The numbers drawn in last week’s juvenile lotto were 14, 16, 19 & 24. We had no jackpot winner  – and 3 match 3 winners who each win €70 – Marie Power, 56 St.Johns Tce., T. McNamara, 48 Mountain View and Mick Torpey, 7 Collins Park. Next week’s jackpot is €4,000 and we sincerely thank all those who continue to play our weekly lotto. Entry is €2 and this can be paid to any of our promoters or any committee member. The club lotto started just one year ago and to date we have given out prizes in excess of €34,000. Monies raised have been expended primarily on club facilities and in particular to help the juvenile section of our club.

Presentation of medals to our under 6 boys & girls, under 8 boys and under 10 girls will take place on Tuesday evening of next week 06th December in juvenile centre at 7.00 p.m. All players will be notified and parents and family members are encouraged to attend. Another reminder that our Christmas trip to Cork takes place on Sunday 18thDecember when 100 boys and girls will travel to see the panto ‘Cinderella’ in Cork Opera House.

We remind members and supporters that playing gear and leisure wear in club colours are available through juvenile secretary. These make ideal Christmas gifts and are very competitively priced.
