Carrick Swan GAA Notes

Carrick Swan club hosted the Tipperary under 14 hurling teams who were competing in the Sonny Walsh and Tony Forristal hurling tournaments in Waterford over the week-end. Both teams had representatives from our club with Jack Cooke playing in Sonny Walsh tournament, where Tipperary lost out to Cork in final, and Dean Fitzgerald proudly captaining Tipperary to success over Cork in final of Tony Forristal. Tipperary defeated Wexford and Waterford and drew with Kilkenny to qualify for Sunday’s final in which Dean contributed six points in their 0-11 to 0-06 win. Dean deservedly won the man of the match award in final. We congratulate Jack and Dean and both Tipperary teams and we sincerely thank the host families who looked after approximately 40 boys over the week-end. Carrick Swan club was also represented on the Tipperary under 16 team playing this week with Dale O’Hanlon again captaining the team while both Sarah Connolly and Kerri Robinson were part of the Tipperary under 14 camogie team who played in Thurles on Saturday.

Many of our underage teams were in action last week and again this week. Our under 16 hurlers played Raparees of Wexford and will host a visit from the same club on Friday evening next while they also had run out against Holycross on Monday evening. Meanwhile our under 14 hurlers prepare for next week’s south final with game against Douglas from Cork on Wednesday evening of this week on The Green. They play Moyle Rovers on Tuesday evening next in Clonmel in South Final.

Carrick Swan under 10’s competed in the Mullinahone tournament on Saturday last while our under 12 hurlers played both Portlaw and Ballyneale/Grangemockler in friendly games during the week. They will travel to Thurles on Friday evening next for county go-games competition having qualified for South Final against Ballingarry. Our under 6 and 8 hurlers will play friendly games in Clonea on Saturday morning while our under 10 camogie team will compete in blitz in Cahir also on Saturday.

The activities described above outline the continuous hard word being put in by so many at all age groups within the club. This hard work pays off mainly by seeing so many playing and enjoying our games but also with many of our teams competing successfully in all age groups. It is also very pleasing to see a number of our players representing their county and thanks must be attributed to all those who coach these young boys and girls throughout the year.

At time of writing we have still not received fixture confirmation for our south senior hurling championship semi-final replay against Mullinahone. It looks like this game will take place on Sunday 11thSeptember. The team is preparing well with a number of useful challenge games recently keeping them in tune.

The numbers drawn in last week’s juvenile lotto were 4, 5, 12 & 21.. We had no jackpot winner and four match 3 winners who each win €50 – Jim Smith St.Johns Tce, Ray Dunne Tanners Gate, Clare Walsh 15 Comeragh View and Christy Power Castletown. We thank you for your continued support and welcome new entries at any time. Weekly entry fee is €2 which can be paid to any committee member or any of our lotto promoters.

Carrick Swan club wishes the Tipperary senior hurling team and their management the best of luck in Sunday’s All-Ireland final against Kilkenny. As excitement in these parts reaches fever point we are all now looking forward to the game and hopefully seeing the Liam McCarthy returning to Tipperary.
