Carrick Swan show charitable side.
Once again Carrick Swan G.A.A. Club have shown the way when it comes to raising much needed revenue for those less well off in our society. On Saturday last their club hall was full of adults and children who had turned out in their numbers to support the ‘Big Lunch’ with all proceeds going to two local charities, namely St. Colman’s Junior St. Vincent de Paul and Meals on Wheels.
People who supported the venture paid €5 entry with children paying just €2.50 and for this they could avail of a vast array of food, soups and beverages (strictly non-alcohol) all kindly donated and sponsored. There were numerous spot prizes too in a party atmosphere, and there was a surprise for hard working club man Martin Houlihan when he was presented with a cake and kisses!! as he celebrated his birthday.
The workload was shared by many willing helpers on the day and the hall was a hive of activity as the throngs of people were fed and then enjoyed a chat afterwards in the newly decorated hall. Carrick Swan G.A.A. Club deserve great credit for hosting such a venture but in particular credit must go to Mary Barrett, Bernie Torpey, Yvonne O’Halloran and Martina Walsh for all their hard work in organising the event and to all who turned out to help on the day. Carrick Swan are a club to be proud of.
