Carrick Swan vs Anner Gaels Match Report

posted 15 Apr 2013, 18:16 by Carrick Swans

Carrick Swan u16s travelled to Fethard on Monday to play Anner Gaels (Fethard/St Patricks) in their u16 'A' football championship. Conditions were brutal with a gael force wind up the field from the dressing room side of the pitch.

We played against the stiff breeze in the first half and after an impressive defensive display we went in at half time 2-02 to 0-01 down.

We started slow in the second half and a Darragh Wells goal after 10 mins looked to have been the spark we needed to drive on for victory but it just never happened.

In the last 2 minutes of this game both sides received a penalty. Anner Gaels missed theirs after 61 minutes while Eric O’ Halloran’s effort scraped the post as it went millimetres wide with the last kick of the game.

Our lads battled hard throughout and showed great workrate from the start to the end where we came up just short of the amalgamated side which contained no fewer than six county u16 footballers. We had some superb individual performances and it’s safe to say that if our side lift hurling or football silverware later on in the year they can look back to tonight as one of the nights that set the tone for the rest of the year.

Full time score: Anner Gaels 2-2 Carrick Swan 1-4

Swan play Cahir next Monday in Cahir. Time to be confirmed.
