posted 2 Nov 2013, 14:04 by Carrick Swans
Carrick Swan GAA Club has been asked to make our members aware of the recent partnership zgreement between the GAA and the Irish Blood Transfusion Service

The partnership between the GAA and the Irish Blood Transfusion Service was established to
  • Inform and educate
  • Encourage and support
  • And make convenient for GAA members and supporters to give blood, through interaction and promotion at local GAA club level.

Some key facts about blood;
  • Blood has a shelf life of 35 days
  • 70,000 patients need a blood transfusion each year.
  • 1 in 4 of us will need a blood transfusion in our lifetime.
  • The Irish Blood Transfusion Service needs 3,000 donations each week.
  • Only 1 in 450 members of our community are active donors

For the wider GAA community, interested in giving blood

Maybe you are a first time donor, or you have given blood before? Either way, we appreciate the time and effort you are taken to find out more about giving blood. We encourage donors to commit to giving blood at least twice a year. It’s a generous and community spirited thing to do and most importantly – it saves lives and helps family and friends recover from illnesses and emergencies.
It is estimated every donation can save 3 lives, and that 1 in 4 of us will at some time in our lives require a blood transfusion

Below are some links are to help you learn more about donating including details of clinics over the next 6 days, and the next 8 weeks and because not everybody is able to give blood (sometimes temporarily, sometimes permanently) , we have a simple eligibility test that will help you see if you can donate.

We ask players not to donate if they intend training or playing on the day of donation.

We thank all those, at all levels, associated with the GAA for their continued help in maintaining a safe and sustainable blood supply, whilst building a community spirit around blood donation.
