Carrick Swan 2-27 Kilsheelan Gaels 0-11

Our Minors began their campaign tonight against the amalgamated Kilsheelan/Kilcash & Newcastle in Monroe.

We started well and raced into a 0-05 to 0-02 lead after 10 minutes. However, Kilsheelan Gaels clawed their way back and the scoreline was 0-05 to 0-04 after 15 minutes. It was score for score up until the 28th minute when a long range effort by Dean Waters went straight to the net. Swan added another couple of scores before half time and went in 1-11 to 0-07 up at the break.

In the first 15 minutes of the second half, we outscored Kilsheelan Gaels by 11 points to 3 which gave us a commanding 1-22 to 0-10 lead at the half way stage of the second half. With 6 minutes to go, Dean Fitzgerald controlled well, turned his man and buried the ball to the back of the net. We added on another 4 points before the final whistle to leave the full time score Carrick Swan 2-27 Kilsheelan Gaels 0-11.

All in all it was a good start for our boys who had a number of good performers on the night. Best for Swan were Kevin Faulkner in goal, Scott Hogan at full back, Dale O' Hanlon and Shane Torpey in the half back line, Lee Wall and Dean Waters in midfield and upfront Danny Fitzpatrick and Dean Fitzgerald caused havoc in the Kilsheelan full back line.
