Our Minor hurlers played St Marys on Sunday in Cloneen in Round 2 of the South Minor A Hurling Championship.
The game was very physical from the off and looked like it was going to be a belter in the opening exchanges. However, poor shooting, elementary mistakes and questionable refereeing decisions meant this game was a low scoring affair that never really got going until the final ten minutes. The half time score was St Marys 0-04 Carrick Swan 0-03 with both teams missing a host of easy chances in the first half. The second half started with Marys getting on top and looking relatively comfortable midway through the second half leading 0-08 to 0-05 with Swan struggling and never looking dangerous. However switching Dean Walsh out the field seemed to help Swan come to life and this was rewarded in the 49th minute with a Dale O Mahony goal to put the Swan into the lead for the first time since the 20th minute. The lead was short lived however with Marys scoring 3 points in the next 5 minutes to put them back in control. With just 3 minutes to go we were very unlucky not to get a second goal as the ball hit the outside of the post after some great work in attack. The game ended St Marys 0-11 Carrick Swan 1-07. We play Moyle Rovers on Wednesday in Kilsheelan. All support welcome. |
