Carrick Swan GAA Notes Monday 24th October 2011.
Carrick Swan under 16 hurlers played Ballybacon in rescheduled south (A) semi-final on Saturday morning last in Monroe. The preparation for this game was far from ideal with a number of postponements and a number of players unavailable for different reasons. However the team performed well on the day to run out clear cut and convincing winners. Due to circumstances over which we had no control the final was fixed for Sunday morning last in Cahir where we lined out against St.Marys with less than 24 hrs. rest from the previous day’s exertions. This was an evenly contested game from the start, played in extremely difficult conditions, and we held a slender one point lead at half time 0-05 to 0-04. We extended our lead with an early second half goal but tiredness set in which allowed St.Marys draw level with the game in injury time. One last courageous effort saw us land a terrific winning score to secure a well deserved win 1-07 to 0-09. We congratulate this brave team and their mentors on a great win which brings the under 16 (A) championship back to our club for the first time since our three in row 2001, 2002 & 2003. We wish the team the best of luck in county semi-final against Arravale Rovers with Durlas Og awaiting the winners in final.
The powers that be saw it fit to play our under 21 championship game against Fethard at the same time as our under 16’s were lining out in their final on Sunday morning. The under 21’s had a good win but this not take from the disgraceful decision to play both these games at the same time. Our club is sure that never before has a club in this division, or indeed in the county, been treated in this way by those in charge. They will argue that they had no alternative but that is not good enough and not true. A number of families had players playing in both games which made it extremely annoying. Carrick Swan club will ensure that those who made this decision will be reminded of their unfair actions now and in the future.
The numbers drawn in last week’s juvenile lotto were 2, 25, 27 & 28. We had no jackpot winner – and five match 3 winners who each win €40 – Gerry Power Cluain Cregg, The Dunnes Carrick-Beg, Sinead & Flange Carrick-Beg, Kevin Walsh Lisadell and Helen Stewart Seskin Court. Next week’s jackpot is €2,750 and we sincerely thank all those who continue to support and play our weekly lotto. Entry is €2 and this can be paid to any of our promoters or any committee member.
Juvenile disco will take place on Friday next from 8.00 to 10.30 p.m. with prizes for the best Halloween fancy dress. All are welcome to attend this strictly supervised event with minerals and crisps provided free of charge on the night. Supervisors are asked to be in attendance at 7.45 p.m.
Carrick Swan’s annual juvenile flag days will be on Friday 11th and Saturday 12thNovember. We will be looking for players and members to help out at collection points and would appreciate if those who are available on either day could give their names to any committee member.
The recently successful Tipperary under 14 hurling and football teams will attend in our juvenile centre on Saturday 12thNovember for presentation of medals. County board officers would like all the families within our club who have hosted players from the under-age Tipperary teams over many years to attend on the night where formal thanks can be bestowed upon them. Timetable of event will be published later.
Carrick Swan’s annual juvenile Christmas party / trip will again be to Cork Opera House this year to see pantomime – Cinderella. Last year’s trip was most enjoyable for the children, and adult helpers, and all booking forms should have been returned by now. Remember spaces and tickets are limited and are allocated on a first come / first served basis. The trip will take place on Sunday 18thDecember. More details later.
We remind parents and supporters that juvenile secretary is currently taking orders for training and leisure wear in club colours. These items make ideal Christmas gifts and are very competitively priced but orders must be placed now to ensure delivery.
Carick Swan club congratulates our near neighbours St.Mollerans on their intermediate hurling play-off win last week end.
The annual general meeting of Carrick Swan Hurling Football & Camogie Club will take place on Friday 25thNovember. Official notification will be sent to all members and we look forward to your attendance.
